He put it off until the last minute and was overwhelmed. Her father counseled him saying they would take it, "Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird."

Absolutely solid advice for writers - even though to be honest, I am almost never beset by writer's block - ha, ha, ha (I'm kidding about the ha ha ha. Inside joke, sorry.) Outside of the tremendous aid it provides, however, this is also a fascinating tale of insight into a writer/teacher's life. It's humorous and often fairly raw and ribald, but the reader has little choice but to fall in love with the narration.

For that alone, you should buy the book. Charming. Very charming.
