Kadomi reviewed Autobiography by Morrissey
Review of 'Autobiography' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
This book finds me rather conflicted. I would like to give it 5 stars for the writing style that just screams Morrissey to me. He writes exactly the way he writes his songs. It's meandering, sharp, witty, over-dramatic, narcissistic and suffering. I loved it.
What I didn't love was that the autobiography are just random ramblings. There is no real timeline, he jumps back and forth. No sense of structure. No chapters, just one long string of Morrissey narrative from his birth to a really abrupt ending. Especially the last 10% were a trial to read, as he basically just lists venue after venue he played gigs at. It was one big blur to me.
Things I now know, after reading his autobiography: Irish blood, English heart. Hated the school system. Hates record companies. Hates the royal family. Is vegetarian. -- Of course I knew all those before I read …

I did enjoy the Smiths parts, and the stuff about the Joyce court case was quite interesting.
I would only recommend this book to hardcore Morrissey fans, everyone else will probably find it off-putting. I still dream of seeing the good sir live in concert. The good life is out there somewhere.
