Kadomi reviewed Queen of Fire by Anthony Ryan (Raven's Shadow #3)
Review of 'Queen of Fire' on 'Goodreads'
4 stars
Not quite as good as the previous two books, but still an enjoyable read. The grand finale was fast-paced, with short chapters and varying PoVs, and I couldn't put it down. Alas, the way to the finale was often a slog, and in order to demonstrate the Empress' depravity, there was a mind-numbing display of Volarian violence that failed to move me ultimately.
Looking back at the series, the character I would like to know more about is not Vaelin, the lone hero of the first book. I cared most about Reva, the ass-kicking Blessed Lady, and I do hope she gets a reunion with Veliss. If there was ever a follow-up, I'd hope it was focused on Reva!
All in all, I really highly recommend this series, despite the slogging moments of the final book.
