I already loved Blackbirds a lot, but Mockingbird was an improvement to the first book in the series for me. We return to the highly flawed Miriam Black who lives in a trailer with her lover and hasn't used her ability to predict people's deaths since the end of the first book. But she returns to it for a job and thus finds a hint about a ritualistic serial killer hunting girls at a school for 'bad' girls.

As soon as Miriam made it to the school I couldn't put this book down. It's still got all the components that I liked about the first book. Miriam is the most vulgar protagonist I ever encountered, there's a lot of violence and it's more horror than urban fantasy. Nevertheless, it's right down my alley. If you didn't enjoy the first book, you won't find anything to enjoy here.
