Alexia reviewed Anne Marie by Lucien Bodard
Review of 'Anne Marie' on 'Goodreads'
4 stars
The first two books are really captivating, the last book is too self-pitying and lacks the attraction of exoticity since it happens in France among rich people... boring! However, it does provide some insights into the relations between Lucien Bodard's parents and the wider political issues of the time, so it is not a complete waste of time.

I was a bit disappointed because I thought the book would go more into the ridiculousness of academia. Otherwise, amusing but I did not feel the story was going anywhere.

Alexia reviewed Oblomov by Ivan Aleksandrovich Goncharov
Review of 'Oblomov' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
I was really confused by the course of the book, and I was not happy about the end :) I think I confused this book with another one that was recommended to me, where the hero starts like Oblomov but then at some point goes to explore the world. I was waiting for that point for almost the whole book! Now I have to find out what book was actually the one I meant to read!

Extremely shocking history of the systematic extermination of various social, political and ethnic categories by both Staline and Hitler and their willing minions. It must have been terrible to be a defenseless victim of such barbaric policies, completely without help from anyone and with no hope of getting out.
