The Shadow of the Torturer is the first volume in the four-volume series, The Book of the New Sun. This is a serious wtf book. It's written in a very compelling manner, but it's tough to discern a plot, ever get any answers, get a feeling for the characters or really anything you expect from a book. However, it's still a good read, and I can see all the elements that have contributed as inspiration for the Numenera RPG. I don't have the immediate urge to read the sequel, but I will do that soon. First, I need a break and read something...normal, I guess?
