Review of 'The female body in medicine and literature' on 'Goodreads'

I acquired this for Emma Rees's excellent "Narrating the Victorian Vagina." It's a fascinating article that gave me new insights, especially about Vilette. For this alone, I was very pleased. What I didn't realize is there was much more here, including a brilliant essay on Rebecca and another on The Doctor's Wife. Altogether, I am astounded by how these great, well-known works can be read in ways that are far more incisive. I am also, of course, horrified by the great lengths women authors took to avoid the topic but still leave their bread crumbs.
