4.5 stars, really.
I was ready to be swept away by a great book for a change, and Midnight Riot/Rivers of London (I prefer the latter) is a fantastic, fun book that was going on 5 stars until it got a bit confusing and muddled in the end.
I would like to call this the British version of Harry Dresden, only that I like Peter Grant more than I like Harry Dresden. Peter Grant is telling the story from 1st person view, and he's funny, with a background of being the son of a drug addict jazz musician. He made me laugh quite a bit. For what it's worth, I was entertained throughout and am looking forward to reading more books in this series.
