Ten strangers, apparently with little in common, are lured to an island mansion off the coast of Devon by the mysterious U.N.Owen. Over dinner, a record begins to play, and the voice of an unseen host accuses each person of hiding a guilty secret. That evening, former reckless driver Tony Marston is found murdered by a deadly dose of cyanide.

The tension escalates as the survivors realise the killer is not only among them but is preparing to strike again… and again... ([source][1])

It's been a long time since I last read this book, and I remembered liking it. I don't think I caught all the ways in which the movie Clue either references it or uses it as a guide for their detective spoof before, and that was partially the reason for why I wanted to read it again.

I still very much like the idea that the point of the book is to target those who cannot be touched by the law or who haven't done something that can be considered "criminal." I am so behind on bookclub, still catching up. I finished this before the main selection because I am a longterm Agatha Christie fan. I just love the style of her who-dunnits that keep you guessing until the last minute. It's not her best book, but it's full of suspense as soon as the murders begin. It could maybe have been streamlined to begin on the island, because the exposure to the ten characters of the story was a bit clunky and not that interesting.

Fast read, good book, would read again.
