Remy Pendergast is many things: the only son of the Duke of Valenbonne (though his father might wish otherwise), an elite bounty hunter of rogue vampires, and an outcast among his fellow Reapers. His mother was the subject of gossip even before she eloped with a vampire, giving rise to the rumors that Remy is half-vampire himself. Though the kingdom of Aluria barely tolerates him, Remy’s father has been shaping him into a weapon to fight for the kingdom at any cost.

When a terrifying new breed of vampire is sighted outside of the city, Remy prepares to investigate alone. But then he encounters the shockingly warmhearted vampire heiress Xiaodan Song and her infuriatingly arrogant fiancé, vampire lord Zidan Malekh, who may hold the key to defeating the creatures—though he knows associating with them won’t do his reputation any favors. When he’s offered a spot alongside them to find the …

So what happens when a vampire hunter ends up in a poly thruple with two vampire nobles?

Remy is a vampire hunter partly estranged from his father and an outcast in the other hunters, given only the bounties no one else would touch despite him proving himself a thousand times over. This may have something to do with his mother eloping with a vampire. His only friend is secretly a vampire he saved and he is often used for sexual favours from one older noble lady.

A new mutating disease is creating new monsters and the town immediately turns on him, blaming him for the death of a Lord. His only allies ends up being cinnamon bun vampire Xiaodan and her arrogant fiancé Zidan. Taking him under their wing, they work together to solve the mystery despite raised pitchforks from the humans. In time, Remy gets closer to them and …

Goodreads Review of Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm a vampire girly at heart. Having never read Twilight or anything by Anne Rice, I'm not sure, but I was eager to jump into this to get a taste for that sweet, sweet vampire life. Unfortunately, this wasn't it. It was 200 pages too long, had too many tropes, and couldn't settle on a consistent tone, all while having a choppy, unsatisfying story.

In Silver Under Nightfall, we are following Remy, a vampire hunter in the kingdom of Aluria, son of a renowned vampire hunting duke who kind of hates him. After Aluria strikes an alliance with one vampire court, Remy is roped into allying with two engaged vampire lords, Malekh and Xiaodan to find the source of a mysterious, undead plague that is affecting both vampires and humans alike. Through this, he grows closer to both Xiaodan and Malekh and eventually becomes …

I was eager to read Rin Chupeco's first foray into adult fiction, this vampire novel, Silver Under Nightfall, and especially delighted to receive a review copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I hadn't been approved for their young adult titles, presumably through not being particularly young myself! I felt that Silver Under Nightfall did take a while to get going and there were a couple of moments early on where I wondered whether this novel would actually be a good fit for me, however, at about a fifth of the way through, the pace jumped up and I found myself gripped from then on. The story is as elegant and sexy as its two vampire leads, Lady Song and Lord Malekh, yet also thrilling and frequently gruesomely violent. I was surprised, actually, that I rarely recoiled from the fight scenes because I am a bit of a wuss when it …
