I enjoyed the second book of this series about very grey superheroes. We're following up on the story of Victor and Eli, former friends turned enemy superheroes. Victor can make people hurt with the twist of his power, Eli has super-regeneration and cannot die. In the previous book there was a showdown that ended with Eli in superhero jail, and Victor revived by fellow ExtraOrdinary Sydney. But he came back wrong, and so keeps dying over and over again. His road to finding a cure for his ailment ultimately leads him back to the city of Merit, for another showdown with Eli.
The last quarter of the book was sheer excitement and action. V.E. Schwab used the narrative style of flashbacks again, so everything works towards that pivotal moment at the end of the book.

If I have a complaint, it's about the new EO and villain Marcella. She was such a mustache-twirling villain that she kinda bored me. Very one-note, had a lot more potential. I thought June was more interesting, and can only hope that we'll learn more about her in the next book. There will be a next book, right?
It felt a bit more grim in this one, the stuff with Eli in the labs was pretty nasty.
All in all, really really liked it.
