This is one of the best books in the Legendarium. Christopher Tolkien's work is so exquisite that this book can be considered the precursor of the History of Middle-Earth. Definitely a must read to anyone who wants to delve into Tolkien’s legacy.

Nimensä mukaisesti postuumisti toimitettu kokoelma keskeneräisistä sormusmaailmaan liittyvistä tarinoista. Mukavampaa luettavaa kuin vaikka Silmarillion, koska tarinat ovat pääsääntöisesti yksityiskohtaisia tarinallisia kuvauksia eri henkilöiden tekemisistä, kohtaamisista ja yhteenotoista. Suomennoksessa minua toisaalta häiritsi ihan kohtuuttoman paljon epäsäännöllisten monikkomuotojen viljely — ei, ne nyt eivät vain istu suomeen samalla tavalla kuin englantiin, ja melkein jokaisen esiintymän kohdalla teki mieli lopettaa lukeminen.
