This novel is short and well written. I found in it what also charmed me in Lovecraft's novels like "At the mountains of madness". You are alone in a hostile environment, however, what bothers you the most is : what else is out there besides you ?... I enjoyed this book thoroughly !

Science fiction at its best

This is my favorite format of science fiction : short but thought provoking stories. Surprisingly, the story that gave the name to this book is far from being the best in my opinion. If you want mind-bending novels that are both fun and at the same time disturbing, this book is a must-read.

I read this one a while ago but since it's the flagship of my instance, I can't exactly ignore it ^^ This book is one of the few I read that offered a credible example of a world without capitalism. Sure, it's fiction, but the world it describes is credible, believable. It's certainly not perfect, Le Guin makes it clear, but it's enough to make one stop and think about our world. Undoubtedly, this book left a lasting impression on me.

I just finished this book and appreciated it. This is a nice short and carefully crafted puzzle. Even though I guessed correctly some key elements of the plot fairly quickly, this story was intricate enough to pique my interest all the way through.
