Enjoyed this book about actor Sam Heughan’s adventure traversing the West Highland Way, and his journey in becoming an actor. There were quite a few memorable points that were touching, hilarious, somber, and hopeful. A couple of my favorites:
The moment Sam launches a surprise fart attack on his fellow actors while in full Batman costume. The lows Sam recounts in his failures in making it in Hollywood (twice). The elation upon Sam finally attaining a breakout role as Jamie Fraser in Outlander. Getting caught taking a silly mushroom selfie by a fellow hiker on the West Highland Way. Sam recounting the hilarious image of being strapped to the top of a taxi and simulating horseback riding due to a film production’s low budget. The account of Sam losing the only recording of his father’s life story, recorded right before his father lost his life to cancer, made poetic because his father chose to remove himself from Sam’s life.
The best way to get through this book is by listening to the audiobook, as Sam Heughan narrates it himself! Was a lovely read to help me get through Droughtlander.
