James F. Mersmann: Out of the Vietnam vortex (1974, University Press of Kansas) 5 stars

Review of 'Out of the Vietnam vortex' on 'Goodreads'

5 stars

Impressive work by a lover of poetry with a firm grasp of history. Mersmann places the work of the Vietnam-era poets in the context of their times. The book is driven from the poetry first, capturing the essence of the voices of those times, but each essay gives a better picture of their world. It would have been nice to have more poets examined like Adrienne Rice, Gregory Corso, Amiri Baraka, and Gary Snyder.
