Really special book with many wonderful stories like a box of treats you unwrap one-by-one, your pressure growing relentlessly until you are unwrapped too. It's also a cunning murder mystery with plenty of suspects; a horror story with frightening antagonists; a story of imperialist ambitions exploitations, and consequences; and finally, a spiritual story that offers a compelling afterlife philosophy, one that rings familiar to Brazilian spiritualists. Very simply, a bloody brilliant novel with a plot that, um, slays, and characters you wish you could dance with or kiss in the dark of the forever night. Grab it and let it gobble up your weekend like I did. You will be so happy!!! :-)

I bought the book and the narration, so I could walk with it, and, yes, I also took my phone into the shower. It's that good! LOL. The narration is SO wonderful. And, yeah, I just preordered …

Solid sequel that maintains the cynical grey tone of the first volume. A good character-driven novel with characters who have to overcome themselves and illusions of themselves in order to survive, one way or another. I love Grossman's prose, which has a dismissive aspect, but is also so illuminating, with surprises everywhere. However... Note: Trigger warning for a very immediate rape scene.

I'm really glad I stuck with this one. This wasn't really my genre, but it was executed incredibly well. I loved the characters. I liked the narrative choice of multiple time segments that catch up with another thread of the now. I really liked the sizzling sex, which was very artfully written. Overall, I'm so impressed. Well done! :-)

Short but lots going on here. This is a horror-tinged portal fantasy with good gender representation. The characters are interesting, the environment gritty yet beckoning, and death is just below the surface.

Cold War military porn from the same template as Seven Days in May but somewhat more ham-handed an absolutely brimming with bias. It's a shame because Clancy clearly does great research. His characters are stock and the dialogue is so often on the nose.

A strange dystopian novelette set in the Sargasso of Trash in the Pacific. Valente is such a great writer, and this challenging story is another brilliant gift. I love Tetley and Oscar the God, but the best scene is when the phone call "home" works, and we see the best ones stayed behind.
