Harry is furious that he has been abandoned at the Dursleys' house for the summer, for he suspects that Voldemort is gathering an army, that he himself could be attacked, and that his so-called friends are keeping him in the dark. Finally being rescued by wizard bodyguards, he discovers that Dumbledore is regrouping the Order of the Phoenix - a secret society first formed years ago to fight Voldemort. But the Ministry of Magic is against the Order, lies are being spread by the wizards' tabloid, the Daily Prophet, and Harry fears that he may have to take on this epic battle against evil alone.

Third time I've read Order of the Phoenix. It is a sprawling book, two stories really, the one of Voldemort's efforts to capture the prophecy and the other with Harry struggling with adolescence. I find Harry of Phoenix to be extremely annoying, a damaged youth afflicted by his history and (of course) his prophesied fate.

The star of the tale (for me) is Dolores Umbridge, a villain with a sweet soft voice and a powerful almost inaudible cough. Harry's efforts with DA foreshadows the important scenes in Deathly Hallows, but its presence here is important too, showing the power of the students resistance. George and Fred are leaders in this rebellion, and their escape from Hogwarts shows the students have other options besides obedience.

So, this is my least favorite Harry Potter story but I still feel bad giving it only 4 stars. What an incredible world.
