Anyone who listened to John Green at all in the past years knows a bit about tuberculosis. Because since he realised that it is everywhere in human history and present, he cannot shut up about it. Now he has beautifully summarised this story in this book. Many of us don't know that tuberculosis is not only currently the deadliest disease on our planet, but italso has been for basically all of human history. We (living in 1st world countries) have just forgotten about it because it stopped being a threat to us ca. 60 to 70 years ago, while poor people keep dying all over the world. John Green managed to make this book a historical as well as medical introduction to the disease, the story of a boy names Henry from Sierra Leone, and a story of inequity and poverty, but also hope and the power of human kindness.

So so good! I hope she writes another book detailing her current work and thinking !

Dieses Jahr ist geprägt von wirklich guten Büchern. Dies ist eines davon.

Clever and grim near-future climate catastrophe scifi

I was absolutely hooked. Our protagonist starts as being very unlikeable, but if you are willing to bear with her, it will be rewarding. There is somewhat a change of direction around halfway through, which seems a bit more generic after that. But the world building and the characters still hold up very much. All in all, really well written.

Interesting book that draws the connections between portions of the neoliberal right and the alt-right/far-right, arguing for connections between many members of the MPS and anti-immigration, race science, and gold-hoarding survivalism. I was going to quote more but the first two were just so grim I felt like I needed a shower. The chapter on gold took an interesting turn into the origins of the AfD that I wasn't aware of.

Fand ich tatsächlich nicht so gut, wie den ersten Teil & als ich mitbekommen habe woher Klune seine Inspirationen genommen hat, hat es mir das lesen auch wirklich erschwert. Schade.

Nichts destotrotz ist die Message hier nochmal mehr zum Vorschein gekommen und wichtig: wir dürfen alle sein, gegen jede Transfeindlichkeit.

Chuck Tingle never disappoints. Lucky Day is full of highly unlikely but definitely possible body horror. When it's gory, it's a macabre Rube Goldberg machine reminiscent of a Final Destination installment. But it's not just about displaying crazy, blood-filled sequences. It's also about the chaotic, fucked-up events of our daily lives and how we view our simultaneously insignificant and profound existences. It's about staring down the absurd, twisted, unfair, and horrific aspects of life and determining that life is worth living because the bad is balanced out by beauty, love, joy, and miraculous coincidences.

I recommend this novel to anyone who grapples with existential dread or has ever believed their life was pointless or inconsequential.

Ich kann jetzt nachvollziehen, warum dieses Buch als ein Klassiker der Marx-Exegese angesehen wird, der Schreibstil macht es den Lesenden einfach. Es gibt viele Punkte, die ich anders sehe. Gleich 2 Kapitel zur Kritik an Luxemburg? ok... Nevertheless, der bekannte Abschnitt zur "Verdinglichung" ist tatsächlich bemerkenswert, und auch das erste Kapitel zum "orthodoxen Marxismus" stellt eine sehr gute knappe Einführung zum Marxismus dar.
